22nd April saw 5 csma classic owners on the Cirencester CC Corinium Run. 80 Classics and modern cars took part in a 120mile tour of the Cotswolds with added flavour of an economy run. The start, at the Highwayman Inn on the A417 entailed filling up with fuel and having the tank sealed before setting off into the South Cotswolds. During the first section a visit was made to a weighbridge to record the cars weight, used later on to calculate the efficiency. On through Malmesbury, Sherston, Badminton and other small villges to the lunch halt the Tortworth Court Hotel near Hawkesbury Upton. A superb hotel with a fine arboretum and a chance to look at some of the vehicles. After lunch the route took us through more picturesque villages when at Leighterton some of us were held up due to the St Georges Day parade filling up the village street. The route took us then back North to the finish at the Highwayman where again the tanks were topped up and our mpg quickly calculated. Certificates recording our fuel consumption, efficiency and a photograph were then given to all the competitors to take away. The best performance was by a modern Puegot 206cc diesel at 123.53mpg (yes thats right!), the wooden sthingy went to csma entrant, Peter Blakes Healey 3000 at 13.93mpg.
A great day out, superbly organised by Cirencester CC. Next year why not give it a go, you will enjoy it.
